A visual exploration of my new hometown.
I am the son of a U. S. Navy fighter pilot. While I was growing up, we moved around a lot. Before I was fifteen, we moved eight times. When my wife retired, we moved to Tetbury, a small town in rural Gloucestershire where she grew up. By the way, this is the nineteenth place I’ve lived, and as far as I can tell, it will be the last. We have been visiting here since we got married 25 years ago. I figure that since I’m here permanently, I should get to know the place. This project is my way of doing that.
When we were looking for places to live, I had three things on my must-have list: A grocery store within walking distance, at least one pub within walking distance and footpaths within walking distance. Are you sensing a theme here? I love walking, hiking and being outdoors! If I can get there on foot, I’m happy. Living where we do, I got all three!
Because I have moved so much, I considered ‘home’ was where my stuff is and I never really felt settled. In the back of my mind, there was another move somewhere on the horizon. With this final move, it’s time to settle in, put down some ‘roots’ and genuinely get to know this town and the surrounding area.
